Challenging the Top Twenty Percent of School Students

• The Initiative held a seminar in the fall of 2005 for researchers and practitioners in the field on the topic of "Challenging the Top Quintile of School Students." The seminar program, presentations and background information about the participants can be accessed by clicking on ”News and Events.”

• A Request for Proposals to conduct research was publicized and after review of all the submissions, two research grants were awarded for the following studies:

• "Promoters of excellence in education: Researching and developing a training and implementation model," Prof. Batsheva Eylon and Dr. Zahava Scherz, the Weizmann Institute of Science

• "Does intervention to foster academic excellence among adolescents have long-term effects on the participants’ development? A retrospective assessment," Prof. Moshe Israelashvili and Dr. Audrey Addi-Raccah, Tel Aviv University

The Initiative is working together with the Ministry of Education's Department for Gifted and Outstanding Students to create a model for a database which will serve the Department, other units within the Ministry, and will be available to researchers in the field.
